Ukraine is modernizing the largest underground storage facilities in Europe
The gas storage operator of Ukraine is starting to re-equip five gas turbine engines for Bilche-Volytsko-Uhersky UGS. The project worth more than 80 million hryvnias will be completed by the end of this year, Ukrtransgaz reported on Monday, May 17.
It is noted that the modernization will reduce fuel gas consumption during the operation of underground storage facilities by 20%, increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the largest gas storage facility in Europe. The power of the new engines is similar to the existing ones and is 6.3 MW. But unlike the existing equipment of gas storages, efficiency in new gas turbine engines is bigger.
“As a result, the new engines will increase the reliability and performance of ground-based energy mechanical equipment of underground storage facilities, while increasing the efficiency of the compressor station (DCS) both in the injection process and in the extraction of gas from underground storage facilities,” the statement said.
The modernized DKS, among other things, will ensure the long-term operation of the Hungarian deposit of the XVI horizon.
